Excursion into the Chianti hills, visiting an ancient wine-growing estate, wine tasting and snack.
A drive through the famous Chianti landscape, known all over the world for its wine and its enchanting countryside.
Be enthralled by a visit of an imposing Medieval castle, the historical cellars of the wine farm, the beautiful garden and courtyards. At the castle you will be served a snack (crostini, cold cuts), followed by a wine tasting session of a selection of fine wines.
You will be captivated by the historical and artistic discoveries you will make in remote villages, surrounded by hills, vineyards and olive groves.
The first area in Italy, in which the Etruscans planted the vine (back in the 10th century B.C.), was the Chianti district, known in Etruscan times, as Aclantis.
Its history and beauty are both compelling and strangely familiar: a land that has been lovingly tilled and cared for by farmers for over 3.000 years.
Oak-coppices flank vineyards and olive-groves. Romanesque parish churches, farm-houses, villas and austere castles are scattered over the undulating hill-sides.
You will visit one of the most famous Chianti wine-growing estates. When you reach the castle surrounded by vine-yards, you will receive the traditional welcome reserved by all Tuscans to their guests and will be taken to tour the historical cellars and the castle.
You will find out some of the secrets of wine making and, sitting comfortably at tables laid with wine-glasses, you will be introduced to a variety of prestigious wines.
As well as wine, you will taste typically Tuscan snacks – crostini (toasted Tuscan bread) with fresh tomato, Tuscan salame or cured ham, bruschetta (toasted Tuscan bread rubbed with garlic and estate produced extra virgin olive oil), the local pecorino (sheep’s cheese), etc.
Lastly, you will be given a glass of the estate’s precious Vin Santo (Holy Wine), into which you can dunk the famous Tuscan cantuccini: a lovely conclusion to the meal.
During this excursion, you will also visit an ancient village, to find out a bit more about the many delights contained in this enchanted part of the world.
