Total immersion in the art of Michelangelo to know his most renowned work, the “David”, and other important works of art such as ''I Prigioni'' and ''San Matteo'' and the “Palestrina Pietà”. The young Michelangelo carved the David from a huge block of rough marble in three years, creating an imposing sculpture of absolute beauty, an icon of the renaissance model. He depicted a magnificent nude young man at the height of his physical vigour, whose intense expression of strength and courage, which originated from an absolute faith in God, roses as a symbol of power and invincibility of the Florentine Republic at the time of its maximum splendour. Admire with our Guide one of the most famous sculptural cycles by Michelangelo: Il Crepuscolo, L’Aurora, Il Giorno e la Notte (Twilight, Dawn, Day, Night) inside the Sacrestia Nuova (New Sacristy) designed by the great artist. Discover the inlays of precious polychrome marbles, of hard stones and precious gems that cover the walls of the great Cappella dei Principi (Princes Chapel), for which Opificio delle pietre Dure (The Factory of hard Stones) was created especially for these decorations and is today one of the most prestigious restoration workshops and museums worldwide. Finally discover the Cripta del Buontalenti, under the Chapel, where the Medici and their family members are buried. These bodies have been exhumed recently to obtain more details on their lifestyles, illnesses and real causes of their deaths still shrouded in mystery.

Our Guide will show one of the most prestigious Museums of Sculptures in the world with masterpieces by the greatest Renaissance artists, among which, just to name a few: the David and St. George by Donatello, the Bacchus and the Round Pitti by Michelangelo, Mercury by Giambologna, besides the magnificent glazed terra-cotta by Giovanni and Andrea della Robbia. The importance of this museum concerning sculptures is comparable to the importance of the Uffizi Museum for paintings. The splendid fortified Bargello palace was the first public Florentine building (1255). It has a beautiful and austere courtyard and a high embattled tower, and owes its name to "bargello" that means "master of the guards" who had their seat here in the sixteenth century. Outside the building, it is still possible to see the hook to which the rope used for hangings was tied.

Discover with our Guide the extraordinary beauty of one of most renowned and photographed squares and historical palaces in the world. Piazza della Signoria with the sculptural masterpieces of Loggia dei Lanzi. It is an incomparable "open-air museum" and the elegant Palazzo Vecchio with the embattled tower has been the political headquarters and one of the symbols of the city for centuries. It was founded in 1299 based on a project by Arnolfo di Cambio and was the seat of the Seignory (Palazzo della Signoria) in the fifteenth century. In the 1500s Cosimo de’ Medici appointed Vasari to transform it into a sumptuous palace for the grand-ducal family. Inside we can admire, besides the elegant courtyard, the beautiful "Salone del Cinquecento" and the whole complex of the “Quartieri Monumentali”, frescoed by Ghirlandaio, Salviati, Bronzino and Vasari and embellished with sculptures by Michelangelo and Donatello.

Live the emotion, in Palazzo Vecchio, of painting on “fresh” plaster with the technique used by the great Renaissance artists who "frescoed" even the splendid rooms of the Palace of the Medici. True artists will assist you in the direct execution of a small fresco. On a base of natural terracotta, you will assist to the application of plaster, the creation of the pouncing with cartons, and finally the preparation of the colours followed by the colouring. You will acquire awareness of the value of the countless frescoes that embellish the cloisters, churches and palaces in Florence and the "small great" work of art that you have made – and can take with you - will continue to narrate this marvellous city in the times to come.
