The Chianti region of Italy is well known for its glorious scenery, laid back way of life, tasty cuisine and of course, its world famous wine. There are a huge number of wineries located in this area, and on May 26th 2013, they will all be opening their doors to the public, for the annual Cantine Aperte (open wineries) event. Organised by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, this annual event has been taking place in Tuscany’s Chianti region for 20 years now. The members of the Movimento Turismo del Vino include some of the most prestigious wineries in Italy, and their goal is to increase national wine tourism industry in Italy. They organise several events throughout the year, and the ‘Cantine Aperte’ is the most important one, held on the last Sunday of May in Tuscany and in the rest of Italy.
During this famous event, hundreds of wineries throw open their doors to the public, establishing direct contact with huge numbers of tourists, wine enthusiasts and locals. By doing this, the public can discover the true world of Chianti wine and local culture, directly on the sites when the wine is produced. During a visit to one of the many cantine, you can visit the most important production areas, take a tour and of course, buy and taste the wine, including the famous Chianti Classico. There are also a number of live events which take place at various cantine, including music and culinary workshops, where you can taste typical dishes of the region. Everyone is welcome to participate in this wonderful cultural experience, and take part in the artistic and gastronomic events on offer.
