Are you looking for a new perspective to take a panoramic photo of Florence?
Piazzale Michelangelo is still an amazing point of view, but if you climb Arnolfo’s Tower you’ll find a 360° degree view over this amazing city, known as the cradle of Renaissance. Forte Belvedere, Santa Croce Church, the Badia Fiorentina, the Pitti Palace, the Uffizi Gallery’s Terrace.. everything will be at your feet, except of the Brunelleschi’s Dome.

The view of Florence Cathedral from Arnolfo’s Tower

The church of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Florentine Cathedral, is the highest monument in the city. Climbing it can be a demanding experience with its 463 stone steps, but it’s worth doing it, since you’ll have the opportunity to see the self-supporting double dome created by the visionary architect Filippo Brunelleschi.
Too many steps? You can visit the Cathedral Terrace, an option that even the Florentine citizens often don’t know.

This special visit, preceded by a video introduction which allows you to go back over the history of Florence, starts with the guided visit of Santa Maria del Fiore, where to discover the superb works of art kept, to access then to the Northern Terrace of the Cathedral, reaching the height of 32 mts.

Far to be a second-best, visit the Cathedral Terrace is a real treat: walking along the northern perimeter of the church, you’ll be close to the coloured marble decoration, appreciating the finest details, almost touching the imposing Dome and having a privileged point of view over the breathtaking scenery that surrounds you.

The wonderful view over the Brunelleschi’s Dome

There’s a free opening of the terraces every 8th September, to remember the first stone of the cathedral, laid in 1296, but also Virgin Mary’s birthday. Luckily, you don’t have to wait so long, thanks to the tour Special Visit to the Terrace of the Florence Cathedral.

If you feel fit, after the visit of the terrace you can skip the line – that is often endless – and have a priority access to climb up the Brunelleschi’s Dome, reaching the highest viewpoint over Florence city centre.

For sure after the visit you deserve the delicious nibbles included in the tour and waiting for you just a few steps away!
